REVIEW: WEEKS 5 & 6 OF 8 WEEK WEIGHT-LOSS PROGRAMME
Denise Elphick writes about her fifth and sixth weeks of her fitness journey here at Grace Belgravia.
Still doing really well with only the very odd slip up. Had a glass of wine which felt a bit acidic and wrong! Back to vodka, lime soda or gin and slimline although, of course, better not at all!
This two weeks will be interesting as the first week I am meeting up with the hypnotherapist, Ana Isabel, who is going to help me establish why I overeat. I am a bit sceptical but everything is going so well I am going to embrace the idea. It might be particularly helpful as on week 6 I am heading to Mykonos for a family holiday. This usually involves lots of dinners out and quite a lot of wine, perhaps I can make it a bit different this year as I don’t want to ruin everything now!
I really love Ana as soon as I meet her. She is very warm and we chat about everything and anything and soon admit to her, what I find hard to admit to myself, that quite often eat and drink socially to please others – my girlfriends, my husband, my daughter even. I realise I need to say no. Also I realise that a lot it is just bad habits that need a slight adjustment. I really enjoy the session and find myself quite susceptable to being hypnotised and wonder if it will work. Well, I am sure to find out on my trip to Mykonos. In the meantime I have lost another kilo!
We arrive to sunny skies and a lovely apartment in Ornos, just near the beach. The apartment is simple but rather sweet and the family who run it are absolutely charming. There is a breakfast we could have every day for $10 but its lots of bread, jam, cheese and yogurt. Not exactly right. We opt to buy our own breakfast from the supermarket and buy low fat Greek yogurt, bananas, peaches wheat free muesli and almond milk. My morning snack is a carrot juice on the beach and I never seem to tire of delicious Greek salad. Largely avoid the bread basket and stick to fish or lamb dishes in the evening with loads of vegetables, especially aubergines which are in abundance.
Discover a fabulous beach called Focus Beach with a famous taverna that serves heavenly food. Opt for romano red peppers served with Katiki Greek cheese for lunch and their famous broccoli salad. Drink much less than usual although feel obliged to try out the fabulous Santorini wines. Really enjoy the food, even if I have eaten a bit more than usual. Exercise is swimming in the sea and Danny’s exercise programme he gives me for the week. My daughter Camilla and I have doing them together in our apartment.
Back to London for a weigh in and discover that I have remained the same weight – just by being a little more focused or it could be that Ana’s magic has worked!
