How to Winter Proof Your Skin with Dr Schulte

October 30th, 2016 | Beauty

Guest writer Dr. med. Erich Schulte, Founder of QMS Medicosmetics shares winter skincare solutions.

Harsh outdoor elements and central heating are not your skin’s friends and long-term exposure to stresses like changing humidity and dropping temperatures can affect the skin’s barrier function, leaving it thirsty and dull.

Upping your skincare regime will help to establish an efficient buffer and defense against winter’s dry skin cycle. First step is to invest in targeted supplements that will help build strong cells to retain and attract water. I am religious about taking my Intravital Plus, which are nutricosmetic capsules, designed specifically to improve the health and wellbeing of the skin. Similarly, make a few amendments to your diet by including anti-oxidant, omega 3 rich foods and drinking plenty of water to nourish from within.

Next get into a regular routine of exfoliation, hydration and protection. In gently exfoliating a couple of times a week you stimulate the skin cell renewal process so your complexion is kept fresh and youthful. There is nothing more aging than dull, dry skin so keep it nurtured! It also helps your moisturiser penetrate the skin more effectively. Winter is the time to get serious about your moisturizer; opt for a more intense cream to nourish your face and body. Many people like to add a collagen serum; they are great all year but in winter the benefits are invaluable. Collagen is probably the most important protein for the health of the skin, but from the age of 25, collagen production slows down and your skin needs the boost. I would always recommend keeping a nourishing lip balm to soothe chapped lips and hands – which are particularly exposed to the cold and will need the extra help. While it might be the last thing you want to do on winter’s day, exercise promotes circulation and helps remove toxins, so get out there!

Not sure which treatment to choose? Opt for a moisture-boosting facial that can also stimulate skin cell revitalisation, you’ll really reap the benefits with a treatment such as our Collagen Rejuvenation , which can give your skin the extra care and support it needs at this time of year.
