Dr Maryam Zamani on Stem Cell Rejuvenation
Ageing is a multifactorial process caused by the accumulation of both internal and external factors. Gravity, changes to our bone structure, fat distribution and skin changes contribute to the ageing of our faces. External factors are environmental insult such as photo-damage caused by UV exposure and lifestyle factors including smoking, stress, diet and drug use.
The loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin results in volume loss and the downward descent of the skin and underlying structures. In the upper face, this gradually creates a longer eyelid to cheek junction, lengthening the lower eyelid and causing the formation of a tear trough. Combined, this causes a more tired appearance and the primary goal of rejuvenation around the eyes is to restore a balanced distribution of the face fullness, while addressing the overlying skin.
The area around the eye is particularly vulnerable to ageing. Eyelid skin is extremely fragile and at 0.05mm thick, it’s the most delicate skin on our bodies. When you think that the underlying musculature (22 muscles and approximately 10,000 blinks per day) is under constant exertion, it is understandable that the eyes are prone to appearing more wrinkled.
I have created the Triple Boost HydraBright eye rejuvenation treatment combining hyaluronic acid, PRP and mesotherapy to create a brighter, voluminous and rejuvenated lower eyelid.
Hyaluronic acid and dermal fillers help augment soft tissue imbalances to restore volume, enhance facial contouring and hydrate the skin.
Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive technique used to rejuvenate the skin using a series of microinjections containing various pharmaceuticals, vitamins and other bioactive substances to increase the synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid to firm, brighten, and hydrate the skin. The injury created by the microneedling also helps stimulate the bodies own healing response, also aiding the stimulation of collagen and elastin formation.
Platelet-rich Plasma, known as PRP or the vampire facelift is a highly concentrated solution of platelet rich plasma prepared from the patients own centrifuged blood. Platelets contain multiple growth factors that can help improve skin tone, texture and colour.
There are many different aspects of periorbital ageing that are overlooked and must be considered. Of course there are dynamic rhytides (or wrinkles) that are a direct consequence of emotion; however, with proper skincare and maintaining hydration, we can slow the rate of rhytide formation, keeping a rejuvenated and more youthful appearance for longer.
