Can Acupuncture Cure Stress, Anxiety, Migraines and Insomnia?

March 3rd, 2016 | Health

By Dr Simon Cheung

Many people question what acupuncture treats or whether it can truly cure ailments. For the past 30 years having worked in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I can absolutely say it cures all sorts of symptoms very effectively.

In modern society, with various advances being made in conventional medicine, we are all seemingly well informed about the scientific aspects of many conditions, most commonly conditions such as insomnia, migraines, anxiety and stress. We are also reasonably aware of the medications that are used to treat such conditions, therefore, we may think it unnecessary to consider taking an ‘alternative’ approach if modern medicine can already tackle such conditions perfectly adequately.

Traditional medicine however, such as herbal medicine and acupuncture, is not about acting as an alternative to conventional medical care. Instead, it is about taking a holistic approach – one that can treat you at the early stages of conditions, while also working to restore your health once such conditions have reached a chronic stage.

Modern medicine often comes with undesirable side effects, some of which may become even worse than the original complaint. The side effects are one of the main reasons why it is beneficial for you to consider traditional treatments such as acupuncture instead. Unlike modern medicine, these traditional treatments seek to cure the root of the problem, restoring you back to true health.

Instead of trying to answer questions many people ask about what acupuncture treats and whether it can truly cure ailments, I simply explain this key difference. The difference being that modern medicine covers up symptoms (and often creates many new ones), whilst traditional medicine works in harmony with the body to gently restore health back to normality.
