4 Night Gourmet Cookery At Palazzo Casagrande, Northern Veneto, Italy

Saturday 16th – Wednesday, 20th May

Our 4 night gourmet break at Palazzo Casagrande is an immersion into the food, wine and culture of this evocative part of Northern Italy.

Hands-‐on cookery classes are hosted by ex-‐River Cafe and Chez Panisse chef Sophie Braimbridge, using the rich and diverse seasonal produce for which the region is famous. Fine wines from the area’s leading producers are carefully selected to match every dish. The Amarone, Valpolicella, Soave and Recioto, which offer the perfect compliment to the food of the region, will all be showcased.

As well as discovering the Veneto’s culinary secrets, you will experience some of what makes this iconic area so rich and varied in produce. A trip into Venice to the Rialto fish and fresh food markets to hand pick some of the very best Spring produce, including baby artichokes, broad beans, young peas and radicchio Trevisano to create unique dishes in the Palazzo kitchen. A private boat ride to a leisurely lunch on the tranquil island of Mazzorbo will allow you to sample some of the most exquisite cuisine that the peninsula has to offer, and you will receive expert guidance on the intricacies of the regional wines and olive oils.

Palazzo Casagrande is located an hour north of Venice in the foothills of the Dolomites, and is the family seat of the Conti Brandolini d’Adda family, which has defended the surrounding towns and valleys since the 15th Century and still runs the property today. Stepping through the imposing red doors into the Palazzo, you will at once absorb the beauty, grandeur, history and tranquility that is Casagrande. From the vast, pillared entrance hall through beautiful frescoed reception rooms to a state of the art kitchen, complete with Venetian open fireplace, the building flows effortlessly out through the silk mills and into the enchanting walled gardens. After days exploring the area or creating tantalising dishes in the Palazzo kitchen, you can relax in individually designed bedrooms, each with their own elegant bathrooms, before indulging in dinners that extend long into the night.
